I scrape away, first, space for a mouth
and gasp for fresh air,
poking out holes for eyes with
clumsily numb fingers.
I will freeze before my limbs can break me free;
the strings of darkness will bind themselves around this planet
binding it to their will, before we are all broken free.
We must intensify the flames within,
focus our inmost light
and melt the isolation away
so that the rivers that flow from it
will stream forth and nurture us forevermore.
